E-mail us a story about Steve or condolences to pass on to his wife Niki and family. I know that when the children grow up they will want to know all about their father. We will pass your stories along to Niki and if you indicate that you would like to post them on this site we will also do that. Time and location to be announced soon...check back with us.
My testimony about Steve and Niki
Soon after I made my first Christian music recording, I dropped by CHRI radio in Ottawa, and was introduced to a guy with a bright welcoming smile. It was Steve Carr. He was a producer at the station. I said "I made this recording at home, I haven't played in 10 years so I don't know if its any good." Steve took me into his studio office and played the recording. This is very rare in the world of radio. Usually, artists can't get anywhere near a producer, and if they do they are brushed off. But I was to learn that something was different about this producer. Steve encouraged me and played my music on the air. And with his help I gave birth to a music ministry. Steve was a gifted producer and had a gift for being able to find humour in anything and he could produce an AD with minimal resources that would sound like one of the large production houses.
One day I walked into the station and Steve asked me to read a Christmas commercial for "Focus on the Family". He'd never asked me to read a commercial before. I looked at the copy and started to read on the mike. It said:
"Christmas is Love, Christmas is Family. This Christmas Focus on YOUR family"
My jaw dropped. I hadn't talked to my family in 10 years and now that I was firmly established in my Christian walk, I knew that it was time to make amends and reconnect up with my parents and siblings. Steve was a clear channel of the Lord. Steve wasn't aware of this but God knew all about what had to happen in my life and He used his faithful servant Steve to help me. I knew that this was a sign from God. I called my parents up on Christmas morning and asked if I could join them for Christmas. They said "absolutely." I knocked on the door and saw my teenage nieces and nephews who I hadn't seen since they were toddlers and there were three nieces and two nephews who I'd never seen before. The emotions were incredible and I thought I was going to burst. They welcomed me with open arms. God is amazing. God wants us to be family. Thank you Steve for being that channel.
Steve introduced me to my good friend and music associate Dennis Girard with whom I had been friends and have shared in music ministry for 8 years. When Steve and Niki married, I wrote a song for the wedding. A simple recording of it is here.
Niki & Steve
Niki and Steve
Know what God had up his sleeve
One for the other and the other for one
Working together disciples of the Son
Walking hand and hand with the Son of Man
Each one of them has had a road of their own
From the gates of hell to the river back home
Now they’re dancing in the River of Life
Walking hand and hand as a husband and wife
Niki and Steve know what Jesus really needs
He needs workers in the fields sowing his seeds
Preaching the Gospel, go and shout it out loud
Cause he’s gonna come back on a big white cloud
Each one of them has had a road of their own
From the gates of hell to the river back home
Now they’re dancing in the River of Life

When Steve and Niki bought their house they invited us to play the party and we had an incredible time of prayer, and I asked that the house would be a place of miracles...well it was...Steve had two children with Niki - Judah & Jacoba! Here is a picture of Jacoba.
There was a baby shower at our friends Steve and Betty Rolfe's house. CHRI DJ Brock Toser and his wife Alana were expecting a child at the same time as Steve and Niki. I didn't know what to buy for the baby shower, so I wrote a song instead. I wrote it for the two families, comparing the coming together of the pregnant wives to the Bible story of when Mary, the mother of Jesus, and her cousin Elizabeth, who was carrying John the Baptist, met while they were pregnant. (Lk 1:39-50) The song was called King of Creation. I later adapted it for praise and worship. A recording of the final version is here. Below are the original words.
King of Creation
Mary walked into the Son-lit room
Elizabeth’s baby leaped inside her womb
for a moment they bowed and prayed
to the Holy One the Light the Way
two thousand years since that glory day
two mothers gather in your Holy name (Jesus)
each one is carrying expectant faith
raise your hands everybody and celebrate
let the eagle fly, let the rocks proclaim ...You
let the heavens ring in your Righteous Name
let the rivers overflow with life
for the King of Creation
and the children of the Light
Steve and Niki, Alana and Brock
have built their lives upon a solid Rock
Lord Jesus the author of life
You blow away the darkness with your Holy Light
When my brother and sister in law died tragically last year, Steve and Niki were there for me praying for me. It was a time of great grief, but Steve was there... I would join him as he walked the dog, and we would talk about life, God and the big stuff.
This is a picture of Steve with his good friend Diane McCooeye. Diane runs a prayer and healing ministry and she spent many hours in prayer with Steve and Niki.
Steve and Niki moved to British Columbia last year and began spreading God's love out there. About three weeks ago, Steve was driving with Niki and said "I must pull over I'm not feeling well." He pulled over to the side of the road and collapsed. A virus had attacked his heart and he went into a coma. He died three weeks later.
My writing journal that I'm using right now was given to me by Steve and Niki, with a lovely written note in the front, as a thank you for playing at their wedding. The front cover has a picture of an Eagle flying through the mountains. There is a quote from Scripture beside the Eagle that says "He has set his heart upon eternity." (Eccl. 3:11) There could be no better quote about Steve at this time. Steve is that Eagle.
Through the years Steve has come alive in the Spirit. He has now gone home to be with He who created him, our Lord and Saviour Jesus. We will miss you Steve, but we know that one day we will meet agains at the feet of Jesus.
Please join me in prayer:
Oh Lord God, thank you for giving us Steve
Bring him into your Holy presence where he will spend eternity with you
Lord Jesus pour your grace upon Niki, Judah and Jacoba.
Comfort his parents, brother and all his family and loved ones.
We ask that his witness to your Love continue to spread from now until eternity.
Amen
